Purpose Over Pain (POP) is a 501(c)(3) organization and was formed in 2007 by several Chicago area parents who lost their children to gun violence. These and other parents who were affected by violence now have a Purpose to be effective in preventing gun violence Over merely living with the Pain.

    • Mission statement:
      • We provide positive development activities for children and youth, advocate for and promote safer communities, and strengthen families by providing crisis support to parents/guardians whose children have been victims of gun violence.
    • What we do:
      • Purpose Over Pain hosts community events throughout the year that include the Safe Saturday and Mentoring,Parent Support Days,Nights 3 on 3 Basketball and Unsolved Cases forums. These, as well as, other events give us a platform to sensitize the community about the painful effects of gun violence, bring awareness to common sense preventive solutions, and provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for youth, parents and members of the community.
