Purpose Over Pain (POP) is a 501(c)(3) organization and was formed in 2007 by several Chicago area parents who lost their children to gun violence. These and other parents who were affected by violence now have a Purpose to be effective in preventing gun violence Over merely living with the Pain.
Members of Purpose Over Pain are in Pursuit of Solutions to End Gun Violence.
What We Do
Purpose Over Pain hosts community events throughout the year that include the Safe Saturday Nights 3 on 3 Basketball and Mentoring, Parent Support Days, and Unsolved Cases forums. These, as well as, other events give us a platform to sensitize the community about the painful effects of gun violence, bring awareness to common sense preventive solutions, and provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for youth, parents and members of the community.
We often find refuge in the memorial wall featuring photos of our sons and daughters who were murdered. The memorial wall is located at 78th and Racine on St. Sabina’s lawn, and it is a stark reminder of the loss families face every minute of everyday.
